Hello folks, Do you sharpen your saw blades? If so how? I would like to be able to do this if it is resonable. There are a couple of companies around that advertise sharpening. I’ve yet to check their prices. Thanks once again. -- Jerry, Measure 10 times cut once. Set in the foothills of the Smokey's |

I would send them to Forrest. They do about the best job around. http://www.forrestblades.com/sharpening.htm -- Gary, East TX -- The longest journey begins with a single step. |

Thanks, Great site to compare with local prices. Nice blades here also. A little expensive for me but the sharpening prices look good. -- Jerry, Measure 10 times cut once. Set in the foothills of the Smokey's |

I take them to the hippy guy in town. He can sharpen anything and even brazed a new piece of carbide on one of my blades after I knocked it off the bench by accident. -- Scott - Chico California http://chicowoodnut.home.comcast.net |

”I take them to the hippy guy in town” ha ha, that’s what they do here too. -- Urban logger, http://nelsonwoodworks.biz/ |

Quite a few of the new blades have unusual grinds and take some high end equipment to match. If you alter the angles when sharpening on that $100 blade you love so much, you might as well go down and buy a cheep blade rather that re-sharpen it. -- Dave Herron, Boise, ID -- “That which does not crash the browser, makes it stronger” |

He is a hippy but he is also a pro. He has a mobile sharpening unit (MSU?) that he drives around to businesses. He also likes to talk about tools (he will talk your head off.) He has a great abundance of old handsaws and tools that people have left for sharpening and never picked up. He re-filed one of my old disstons once because it was missing teeth. A fantastic job for $12. -- Scott - Chico California http://chicowoodnut.home.comcast.net |

Best sign I ever saw for a sharpening service in Maine. We Sharpen anything… up to a point. -- There is no such thing as scrap wood!, http://www.saltrivergallery.com |

I use a local guy. Does a good job but not, I’m sure, as good as Forrest. -- Bruce from Central New York |

Like Gary I send my blades to Forrest. The list prices are competitive but they also will send coupons back with the sharpened blade that can be used to discount sharpening another blade by $5.00. -- With God's help all things are possible- even woodworking. Woodworking is not just a hobby, it is an (expletive deleted) expensive hobby. |

I use a local sharpening service that does a whole lot of commercial blades. Big commercial blades. They do a great job with 10 inch carbide blades and my jointer blades. They ruined my dado set. Wouldn’t cut a 1/4 inch by 1/4 inch dado in basswood. Tossed the set out and bought a 35 dollar Chinese set. When it gets dull, buy another. No need to spend 25 dollars for sharpening. -- Makin' Sawdust!!! |

A local place, Walton Saw Works in San Rafael California, does my Festool circular blades for $10 a pop. Sure, I could probably figure out how to do it myself, but not for $10. I know some places in Santa Rosa send their resharpening down there, I need to find someone in Petaluma, in between those two, that sends stuff down. -- Dan Lyke, Petaluma California, http://www.flutterby.net/User:DanLyke |

Not worth the trouble doing it yourself, I send mine away, the cost justifies having it done particularly when we are dealing with tungsten tips -- Grumpy - "Always look on the bright side of life"- Monty Python |
