Made a trip out to the country in Sussex county Va. today to inspect a property for the bank. It was a abandoned old farm house with a attached barn. As I was taking pictures I caught a glimpse of these 2 old pieces sitting on a cross beam. They are a little worse for wear, but should turn into good users. The large plane is a Bailey #6 with a attached hornets nest at the adjusting knob. The little one is a “no name” brand? The only marks on it are Made in USA.

I just did a little rust removal from the blade on the #4. It is a Stanley ” Two Tone” plane. There is no way that I am going to restore it the way it was made. A yellow and blue plane? They sure painted these up ugly. Here is a picture of a original Stanley “Two Tone” #4 http://www.ebay.com/itm/Stanley-No-4-Two-tone-plane-11017-/150636077218 |

shipwrerck … i kinda like the hot rodded colors on the two tone #4 … run a racing stripe up the lever cap and iron and you might get a sponsor! -- "there aren’t many hand tools as awe-inspiring as the #8 jointer. I mean, it just reeks of cast iron heft and hubris" - Smitty |

I might try to paint some of my planes. I thought I’d so something distinctive with them like put a red racing stripe down the sides. -- Failure does not stop me, it makes me try harder..... because I'm crazy. |
