i was cleaning out the old shed and OMG .. Look what i forgot i had in there. I have had both of them for over 25 yrs.. now dose anyone know how in the world they were made? I have done some inlay work in the past. But not like this. Well there back on my wall now, right over my desk.
A little hard to tell by the angle but I would say the top two were pyographed. While I have seen some great efforts to inlay matching grain direction, I don't think it is possible to match the grain as perfect as they are. The bottom one looks like an inlay pattern to me. The landscape was well done with the varous grain patterns of the woods used. Not three dimensional so more marquetry than intarsia. Very nice find and am happy to see them displayed.
