Topic tags/keywords: stanley no2 2 sweetheart sweet heart plane rosewood knob tote sole blade jappaning smooth smoothing

Hey guys and gals. Here is one of the more collectable Stanley planes, and in very collectable condition. I was going to keep this plane in my own collection, but have decided to offer it for sale here to Lumberjocks. I have included many pics but will answer any questions you may have. This is a true sweetheart era plane, dating from the early 1920’s. It retains most of the original decal on the tote, has a full length blade and very little wear from use. The beautiful rosewood knob and tote are free of cracks and solid to the plane. It does have about 15 – 20% loss of jappaning, and some minor pitting on the blade as can be seen. Despite this, the plane functions perfectly, as new. I honed the blade to 8000 grit and it takes uber fine shavings, as pictured. This is Stanley’s second smallest smoothing plane, and smooth it does, the surface of the hard maple I planed is glossy smooth.
My asking price for this fine plane is $325.

I have many other planes, saws, braces, bits, and marking tools that I will be listing in the future, so if you are looking for something specific, let me know and I can certainly help you out. I can work out better prices on multiple tool purchases as well.

Thanks for looking! Ryan

Wish I could afford it. I would love to add this to my Stanley family.

Great looking plane. Great job on the restore.

Thanks for those pictures. I’ve often wondered what the whole decal looked like. Mine has just a ghost left

Ryan,

You’re right, I can afford the plane. It’s the hospital bill, after my wife finds out, that is expensive.

I guess I need to get busy and sell some pens and stuff. 8-)

Do you have a #2 that is maybe not as pristine?

Thanks,

Tim

No problem Stewart. The decal is very rare to find completely intact. I have a few other tools with partial decals as well, but this one has been mostly saved. I think its because the plane has really seen little use, the original decals did tend to wear off quite fast I think.

Tim, I know exactly what you mean! And even the hospital bill is not as bad as the lawyer for the divorce… :)
I only have one other Stanley #2, and was planing on keeping it for my own collection. It is also a sweetheart era plane, in very fine condition but no decal, and a few more minor dings I think. It’s a good size for my son to use once he starts to learn. So unfortunately it’s not for sale. I will keep my eyes open for you tho, and see if I can get one soon.
