You don’t really mean 69 cents a BF do you? -- Gary, East TX -- The longest journey begins with a single step. |

Man I would take anything workable for .69 bf, heck even pine is 1.15 around here. I get my lumber from a local hardwood suppleir, Blue Lynx Hardwoods. Their S2S 4/4 purple heart is about $6.00 a bf -- Glenn, New Mexico |

purple heart is beautiful but beware… first it smells terrible when you work it.. especially on a lathe.. also, the color changes over time so you need a UV protection finish. It is from Brazil and even there it costs more htan .69 a bd foot. -- making sawdust.... |

I went to the link you provided and doesn’t it say $6.99 per bf? The best test is to place 10 bf into your shopping cart and see how much it costs. When I did it the cost was $69.90. |

If it’s 69 cents, I want to know where you shop. That’s cheaper than construction grade pine. I’d expect good PH to be in the $6 ballpark at a local small supplier here. They are a bit higher than larger market cities though. The best deals I’ve found on exotics, is to buy in quantity (100BF+). I can’t afford to do it much, but you start to get discounts normally when you hit 100 or 500BF. Then again, my one car garage shop can’t hold much on hand without blocking machines. Purpleheart would be tough to fake as well. I know there are purple dye stains and such, but I imagine it would be hard to mimic it as it normally has color that varies throughout the board (which is cool) and it greys once oxidized. Good Luck -- Jeff, South Carolina |
