There’s a nice looking Jet JWBS – 14CS Limited Edition 14” Bandsaw on craigslist for $700.

I haven’t been able to find what makes the Limited Edition so special. Give Amazon currently sells a JWBS – 14CS for $750, there must be be something. Or is the seller just asking too much for the used one?

IMO, both the seller and Amazon(et al) are asking too much for this bandsaw. In that general price range, there are a number of other bandsaws that offer more bang for the buck, Rikon and Grizzly to name two.

Sometimes the sellers are just goofy. I recently saw a listing for a C’man RAS asking $700.00. HUH?

^lol $700 Craftsman RAS. I think I paid $250 for mine and I knew I was overpaying. Already all the way out there, desperate older lady, etc.

I think the special edition gets you a pretty sticker.

I’m a JET guy all the way but there are much better bandsaws out there for a bit more.

The one here (near Minneapolis) was supposedly $1,429 new. If true and there is something really, really special about it, $700 maybe wouldn’t be too bad. But it’s a lot to pay just for a nicer sticker.

A fellow turner in the area has a Grizzly G0555 that he likes overall with the exception of being a bit underpowered for the green Mesquite he cuts into blanks.

The Extreme version of that saw is a attractive. But I’m not sure it’s worth the extra $$.

Thoughts?

TIA

^Wow, PapaLee, $1400? That’s well into Powermatic territory and if you’re a JET guy, that’ll get you within a few hundred bucks of this 18 inch 3hp monster. I think you’re right; that must be some SERIOUS special edition:)

Honestly, I’m not too hung up on specific brands. It seems manufactures do good with some tools and not so well with others. I love my Jet 1642evs lathe, but have mixed emotions about my Jet mortiser.

In the 14” band saw arena, it seems the Powermatic is a pretty safe bet, but I would like to spend less than the price of a new one.

I’ve put a call in about the Jet here just to see what I can learn about it. I’ll pass on the information.

Thanks for the replies/thoughts so far.

Bill, $700 for a C’man RAS!!! That would have to be at least as ‘special’ as this Jet band saw for $1,400.

Papa, I’m with you. I love my JET tablesaw but I’m not thrilled with my mortiser either. Love my JET lathe but not thrilled with my drill press. What’s a guy to do. I’ve got an old iron 20” bandsaw so I’m glad I’m done shopping for them:)

^that sticker is friggin sweet. :)
Powermatic should come out with a special-special onyx version with a 3-D panther head coming out of the cabinet. That would rock.

+1 on the rikon. i own a jet 18”band saw. it’s my first jet tool and it will be my last jet tool. the wmh tool group has destroyed the jet and powrmatic brands, IMHO. long on promise, short on delivery and expensive. when i start to do the kind of work that requires a good BS, i’ll unload that jet of mine on some unsuspecting tool snob and buy a rikon.
