Topic tags/keywords: wood type chair wood species

My sister gave me two slipper chairs to refinish. Parts of the chairs need replacing especially on the other chair the whole left side of the back is missing. I am not sure of the wood type though. Any thoughts????

The legs look like either they are a different wood or have taken a beating over the years. I agree with Mizer that the top looks like Maple and I think they used a shellac finish since it has a yellow/orange tint to it.
