Anybody else annoyed by the underwear ads?

My wife is not amused.

Aside from the political rants on the off topic board, I was operating under the assumption that the site was “family friendly”

Perhaps the advertiser made the assumption that woodworkers were mostly men and would like the looks of their models and would buy some of their stuff for our wives so they could look like that.

Don’t guess they realize if that was the main thing on our mind we wouldn’t be working in the shop to start with.

They do have some nice looking models but I, for one, would prefer to see some ads for things related to wood working. I’m not offended or anything like that, but they are just off topic.

I haven’t seen any adds like that of in I don’t see any ads of any kind. Where are they? I doubt very much they would offend me though.

The ads that I see appear to be related my current topic of research, namely guitars. All I see are guitar ads. Given that, what have other people been searching for? Hmmmmmm? LOL

i got the underrwear ad currently … theyre just not my style unfortunately. But as far as family friendly, im not offended, you certainly might be but its not as bad as the vicky secrets catalog that comes to my house every month.

The banner ads are rotation ads posted by Google based on your browsing history and noted preferences… Somebody has been browsing women’s clothing logged in as you… I tend to know when my wife forgets to switch user on our PC because I see ads for makeup and stuff in the banner…. No amount of makeup will remove my ugly and I know it…

As Jack Barnhill suggests, it seems ssnvet, that the ads that appear are based recent sites visited on your PC – part of the way that internet and mobile ‘phone advertising is becoming more sophisticated and using a person’s activities to target particular ads.

If this is the case – and it certainly has been for me as I was constantly supplied with ads for new cars after I started looking for a new vehicle – then it would seem that someone has been looking at underwear on your PC !!

I think the reason these ads run on here is because “shapers” get
mentioned a lot.

I am sure the underwear people would prefer not to be paying
for spots on this site, but the parallel vocabularies make it
difficult to accurately target the ads.

A little browser hygene may help:

1. clear your cookies.
2. don’t search for “shapers” in you main browser program.

Geez, How come I don’t get any models in underware? All I get is tires and laxitive ads.

LOL….. not untill these started showing up… They’re not banner ads across the top, but rather full length (oh my) along the right side. I think they are hitting the LJ sight specificly, as they are at work, on our laptop at home and on the desktop at home as well….. so the cookie trail and log in would be different for each.

I don’t need my daughters thinking that I’m looking at something I shouldn’t be on the PC…

and as for my wife…. we both take the “foresaking all others” part pretty seriously…. no window shopping allowed, if you know what I mean.

My guess is that it’s a lot like the pajama-gram adds in all the woodworking mags…. they assume that this sight is rife with horny old men. Are they really so dense as to not realize that horny old men look at the pictures, but don’t buy the ladies underware (at least, probably not in the sizes shown)

It’s shapers guys. Type shapers in the LJ search box and you’ll
see text ads for SPANX underneath the ad for Southern Tool.

It’s based off searches you’ve done or like said before, shapers for woodworking. If you use google chrome browser you can bypass this by using the incognito window to do all your searches.

I do vaguely recall seeing a model in underwear on the right side of my screen earlier. Now if only I could figure out how to get her back….

SSNVet, Everybody wears underwear. Bras, panties and jockies are advertised everywhere. Internet, TV, billboards, bus stops, and I could go on and on. Ever go to the beach? What is it exactly that your wife doesn’t like?

DKV,

Perhaps there’s a reason why it’s called UNDERwear
