I just wanted to give the more local LJs a heads up that there will be a lumber sale coming up this late Spring or sometime in the Summer. One of the things Mike asked me to do, if anything were to happen to him, was to help Kris with his tools and lumber because he knew she wouldn’t know much about the pricing on these things. I am giving her some time to heal, but she is aware of this and I will be working with her and their son Cal on organizing an event. No further details as far as date and time but wanted you to be aware so you can start saving your pennies. If there is enough interest, I would like to make this an LJ lumber sale that is also a form of commemoration get together.
Mike’s eyes for wood were much bigger than his stomach (or shop) so to speak. There are a couple thick slabs of black walnut, several boards of maple, walnut, and oak. Plus a pretty sizable collection of cedar for outdoor projects. He has a few pieces that would make excellent tables and a few logs suitable for turners. When the time is right, I will head out there and chalk out dimensions and prices. I have no problem discussing the prices, I want things fair all around, but I will be keeping the discounts light. I have been with him on a number of trips and know what he paid for most of it.
Any purchases will go through Cal and myself. I would like to spare Kris any of the haggling and would prefer she not be contacted directly regarding any of his tools or lumber. I know the character of the community here and I know that would be the farthest thing from your minds but there have been horror stories of widows who were harassed by “visitors” of the site who took advantage of their vulnerability. The mention is more for those people to let them know not to even bother, Kris has already been warned of such behavior.
I will keep everyone posted and will supply my contact information for future inquiries.
My thanks to all you LJ members out there. You are all an incredible group of people.
