I have a old Stanley plane that belonged to my Grandpa. I have been cleaning it up, making sure the sole is flat and sharpening the blade. I got the blade I thought was sharp and was doing some jointing on a piece of aromatic cedar and noticed some chatter on the red part of the piece. The light part planed pretty clean and I got a nice shaving. Any ideas as to why the chatter of the darker part of the piece? Or what would cause the chatter at all??

Thanks Jerome

PS The plane is a # 5 bench plane.

If im reading ya correctly,,,,,,, try tightening up the screw that secures the levercap to the plane.Do it while the lever is flipped up-loosest .You dont want to have to pour the coals to it,but you dont want it too loose either. Hope it helps.
