I have a old Stanley plane that belonged to my Grandpa. I have been cleaning it up, making sure the sole is flat and sharpening the blade. I got the blade I thought was sharp and was doing some jointing on a piece of aromatic cedar and noticed some chatter on the red part of the piece. The light part planed pretty clean and I got a nice shaving. Any ideas as to why the chatter of the darker part of the piece? Or what would cause the chatter at all??

If im reading ya correctly,,,,,,, try tightening up the screw that secures the levercap to the plane.Do it while the lever is flipped up-loosest .You dont want to have to pour the coals to it,but you dont want it too loose either. Hope it helps.
