I should have the green machine in about a week (crosses fingers). The wait for the new saw with the riving knife will be well worth it given that had I bought the old 650 model a month ago the retro-fit for the knife would be an additional $800…ouch! Now my ever faithful Shopsmith gets semi-retired to the second string and can double almost all of the stand alone tools that I have. I will have pics as soon as it arrives but for the moment…

I can’t stand the waiting!!!

Johnny,

I can well understand your excitement. It always generates an adrenaline rush when we get a new tool. Since the TS is the most important tool we own waiting on a new one to arrive generates the same anticipation level as a 10 year old waiting for Christmas to come.

I am looking forward to seeing the installation photos.

J.R.,

How ironic, I got the exact saw 2 weeks ago, I had the electrician in last night to do the plug install. He has not finished yet so I am still waiting to start it up! The install went relatively smoothly, I had to dismantle the whole thing so the 3 other guys and myself could carry the thing into the basement. I thought that putting it all back together would require alot of precision however it went together like a dream.

I had to cut the rails down as the room I am in is way to small for 50 inch rails. The only caution I would have is if you have to do this yourself is to watch out for the sticky backed ruler they hide inside the rail tube.

I also bought the mobile base, it is a well made item as well, takes no time to set up and is a perfect fit for the saw.

Cheers,

Derek

Scott, yes it is a bit like Christmas except that I’m Santa or perhaps my wife is for agreeing with me that the saw was an essential!

Derek, you have your 650 already…pics, you know the rules. I won’t have to carry it into a basement since I’m moving into a 3000sq. ft. industrial space but I still have to buy an engine hoist to get it out of the back of my pickup. I bought the rolling base too. It makes sense to be able to move it if I have to and I’m sure the new shop will take on a # of configurations before I’m settled.
