Hi Everyone, Finally!!!!......I’m on the forum and am looking forward to keeping abreast of all the happenings.

I was reading a blog on here from a guy who makes bird houses from old barn wood and I thought maybe you folks could advise me about something.

I have a question. I’m planning to enclose the ends of a 24×40 metal barn and add a door to each end. After getting the quote for the metal material, I’m wondering if I couldn’t do it with wood. So the questions: 1. Would that be recommended since I live in the windy, desert flatlands of New Mexico? 2. So far, I haven’t been able to find any suitable lumber. Anyone know what is available these days? 3. Maybe, tho, I’ll end up framing with wood and keep matching panels on the ends and the doors.

Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

-- Regards, Jim

So you hail from Deming. I lived in El Paso for a few years. The desert is the life for me. Was, at least. You may want to consider Hardi Board. It’s not “cheap”, but comparable to lumber in price, not to far from the ball park, takes paint well, and here’s the best part, it doesn’t rot. It will last a long long time. Otherwise, I’m thinking rock…
