I’ve been watching Craigslist the past week for a $10-$20 router I could use as a trade in at Woodcraft to pick up a Porter-Cable 690LR, I really like that router. Even though I already have three one can never have enough and I’m worried about B&D dropping them or cheapening them up.
So this morning I saw a listing for a 693PK plunge router kit for $75. Not bad if it’s in good shape so I contacted the guy. We eventually spoke on the phone and I arranged to see it. I asked if he was firm on the price and told him I have one of these already and I paid $113 for it new on sale at ACE and said I’d be willing to pay $55. I was willing to go higher but thought I start there, actually wanted to start at $50 but thought that might be too low. He said he’d take $55 so I went to look at it.
Since we met at a gas station I couldn’t plug it in and try it so I decided to look at the bushes to get an idea how much use it had. I looked at a brush, no wear really. I looked at the collet, no tools marks. I noticed all the accessories were still in the plastic bag and the power cord was still zip tied. I gave him the $55. This thing was new never used.
When I got home I realized the 1/4” collet was still zip tied to the cord.

Woodcraft has a trade in on routers? Any info on this, it might be a nice way to ditch my 1/4” collet, single speed B&D that I only paid 10.00 for on craigslist. I really do need something better.
I’m trying to figure out how to put all my routers on a rotating wheel so I can set each one up to do a different profile and then just spin the routers instead of changing bits..I would only need 2 wheels with my current number of routers….........................Schloemoe
Great deal. I got one just like it last Summer from a Craig’s List ad. It came with two router table tops and two Woodpecker phenolic router plates and the entire bunch of stuff was $50! I felt so guilty that I gave a woodworking friend one of the router plates for his router table.
Nope. No April fool. I thought about that because it was April 1st but nope. I still did go look at another router, they wanted $25. It was an old small Craftsman and it came with a small table, offered $15 for just the router and they said no $25 with or without the table and I said bye.
So if I were to pick up a used router for $10-$15 I may still do the Woodcraft thing. With a gift card I have and the $50 trade in that put the 690LR around $60 out of pocket, well worth that. I think I’d have enough routers then. That put me at 11. :-)
very nice deal. I always love to see people score great deals. Now you can flip it for 100.00 and make a quick 50.00. Just kidding. I have 3 of those combo kits and they are really nice.
