Saw this one during my flea market visit this morning.
Can’t say I’ve ever seen a plane of this type, but I’m no plane expert.
It doesn’t look too old. Has a nice weight to it.
Anyone have any clue as to country of origin ?

It doesn’t look like any American plane I’ve ever seen.

It sure is interesting. That sort of rear tote shape reminds me
of examples I’ve seen from Northern Europe or perhaps former
Soviet countries.

Here’s a picture of a Swiss plane with some similarities and
several differences.

Yeah I saw those Rali planes in my search. Similar plastic handles. Might be one of their first.
PK, no I didn’t buy it.

@gavinzagreb: Reason why I asked is that I once found a bizarre-looking plane at a flea market…it was $12…and I had to have it. Posted it here, a year ago, nobody responded except for a few educated guesses. http://lumberjocks.com/topics/27742 Wouldn’t you hate yourself if yours turned out to be ultra-rare and valuable? Somebody’s gotta want it, if for no other reason than that it is so cool looking.

PK, I got a very similar one to the one in your link a few weeks ago. Posted about it in my first flea market blog.

The reason I didn’t buy this latest one is that I’m not a collector. I just wanted a plane I can use. Ended up with a Stanely no. 4 in near perfect practically new condition. Cut see through shavings first time I tried it.
Here wooden planes are a dime a dozen, but you rarely see a metal one.

Have your say...
