My daughter and son in law have decided to make me a Grandpa and I am excited. I would like to see what type of projects you “experienced” Grandpas consider to be your best work for the little tike in your life. How about posting a picture and a link, if available, to your masterpiece for me to consider making for mine? I’ve got few in my favorites saved for this day, but I’ll be looking for ones geared towards preschool kids, not real complex, heirloom furniture projects. Just simple things the kids love to play with. Thanks.

I’ve got a few grand kid projects on my project pages. I just finished the “block in a block” that was kind of fun and easy. Your preschoolers should like one of those. I’ve noticed my daughter has been getting this ”how come you never made me all this stuff when I was a kid” attitude. I guess she doesn’t remember the 12 hour work days I put in while she was growing up. It’s fun to be retired and have a little time on my hands…..............

well the first one is a swinging cradle when i think of the ones i like I think of Sam Maloofs it was a great cradle and would be fun and difficult to copy but a great item that will last through the entire generation and then a few more .

Second would be a really fine rocking horse Wood Magazine did one about 20 years ago that was fantastic I am sure they sell the plans great for a second or third birthday gift

And when they turn 5 a great set of Lincoln logs they sell the router bit to make these they used to sell it at rockler it was a great project i made for my own children but would be a great grandfathers gift too

then around 8 years old a custom ash baseball bat is the ticket or a soft ball bat for the little grand daughter these are fun gifts i have made and i would have to go look for film photos to share so it is likely i wont find them any time soon the maloof cradle is on sams site I believe its still up

That’s a good start.

MIKE / Redryder : Looks like you do them upon the grandkids request, what thay want, they get.

DUDE : Thanks for the Loncoln Logs tip, I’ve been thinking of blocks with a pull cart that I’ve seen on here somewhere but I’ll have to remember that.

Here’s one of my favorite ones that fellow jock Dick Cain did. http://lumberjocks.com/projects/10613
