I was wondering what everyone did today. I was going to work on a countertop but the rain keep me inside. The top is to big to easily work on inside my small shop so I figured I would wait for the nice weather tomorrow. So what do you do on a rainy day? I found a Mahogany box left over from the big batch of boxes I did at Christmas time. It was one I never completed so I decided to see if I could get it done today. Well I didn't finish it completely or it would be over on the projects page, but I did get close. I figured I would share what I have done here and see if anyone else had any unfinished projects they worked on today and would like to share a photo or two.
The inlay is curly maple and I guess you would call that a chip carved lotus flower. I was considering filling it with a pink epoxy, but everyone I have shown so far like it as it is. What do you all think?
How is Etsy working for you? I've heard mixed feelings about it. I'm kinda on the fence as to whether or not to start one. The videos sound really cool. Free hand is a challenge.
Thanks. I wish I had thought of this before I put those miter keys in. They were done before Christmas. I just approached it today as if they are not there. I figured I would figure something out. Maybe a Wenge inlay that covers the corners. I don't know. Any idea's?
That's really nice Joe. I spent half the day working on a coffee table humidor with my buddy, and the rest finishing up a chalk board project with my daughter. I just posted it, and she is very proud of it, as am I.
Sounds like many of us have had very busy and productive days. I am calling it a night and will be looking forward to what else is posted here over night.
I went to a big bluegrass pickin' last night, and got in late…...so I took a long, long, nap….3 hours….I was a little stove up, so just rested mainly…..
I found a new way to spend money! My C'man contractor saw needs new pulleys. I'm going to order machined pulleys from In-Line Industries. The machined pulleys are supposed to help reduce vibration. I already have the link belt from HF, so for an additional $6.00 investment (higher than the price of replacement pulleys from SearsPartsDirect), it sounds like a cheap upgrade.
Worked on another box. What can I say? I'm addicted! I like the carving and would leave it as is after Patron's comment. Never thought about that. David's a pretty good thinker!
Finalized (I think) a design for some high end stereo speaker cabinets. Customer is a serious audiophile who took his project to 4-5 cabinetmakers but didn't like their approaches. I had some questions about his plans that he couldn't answer so I'm doing the job. He's doing more research. - lol
Real nice job on the carving Joey, the whole box is nice. You know some times a great carving is enough. Well done, the whole package is very nice. Can't wait to see it finished.
Mark~
Joey it looks pretty good with the stripes and carving as is .
The mitre keys are very close to the stripes so why not make them larger and centre them on the stripes .
Take a look at Patrons selection of mitre keys .
My day went very good as I got to work on my router table top and the project is nearing completion ,about another week or two and I should be able to post it .
Also playing around with another idea which got me sidetracked for a hour and it looks promising ,so all in all a good day for both of us .
Absoloutly nothing. Relaxed and prepared for the week ahead at nbss. lots to do.
I did order my Lie Nielsen router plane though!
Nice chip carving on that lid!
I spent the day mostly laying in bed with a bad case of strep throat. Went out to the shop for about 30min and cut a few dovetails for practice and that was it.
