This may be slightly off-topic here, but…it isn’t not wood.

I recently found some Jet (which is a very black petrified wood) on a beach, and I’ve been meaning to do something with it, but I really don’t know anything about shaping petrified woods. Has anyone here ever done anything with these woods? Any tips?

Go to a lapidary site. You are dealing with stone that was wood about 5 +/- milion years ago ;-) Good luck.
