Topic tags/keywords: question handsaw refurbishing

Rust Hunter, out and about today. Stopped at a thrift store, and picked up two saws. One was a no-name, not even an etch saw, that had the three sawnuts I was looking for. I also picked up a Disston R1 “Rancher” saw. It was in good shape, just some surface rust. I might just clean it up, sharpen IF needed, and put to work.

Question: What exactly was a “Rancher saw”? It has the “R1” above the name. “Chrome finish” Medallion: DISSTON above a keystone and USA below the keystone. Three sawnuts +medallion, all Chrome finished, maybe a nickel finish? Wheat carving on handle, handle is soplid wood.

The cost of this little excursion? $5, seems the word is out about the Rust Hunter…...

Ok, ok, a picture of the “Rancher”

and a picture of a handle to be cleaned later

the blade it came from, also being cleaned up

and the two parts together, awaiting bolts
