Topic tags/keywords: hardwoods birch shipping cherry maple walnut mahogany cocobolo alder teak oak

I live in Juneau, Alaska And have a real hard time getting hardwoods here!

My Question for anyone is this:
Does anybody know of a hardwoods dealer that will ship here from the northwest area as shipping has become so much a large fee. I had it shipped to Alaska marine lines in Seattle then shipped here to Juneau. So there was two shipping fees of close to over 200 dollars and the Birch hardwood was only around 300 dollars….
I like working with Cherry and maple most!

Have you checked with any Canadian suppliers? Just a thought as I am not at all familiar with the shipping cost to your area though I do know they are high. (Had a son who worked in Kodiak at one time). I do understand your problem as I live in Montana and have to do considerable searching to get hard or softwood that is decent for cabinets and furniture.

Not sure if you have already looked at local businesses but here is a page I thought might be helpful to you. Some of the cabinet work companies might be a good contact as they might be able to hook you up with one of their suppliers. At any rate, worth a look.
