Black walnut and black cherry usually command the highest lumber prices.

It depends a great deal on the grade, cut and demand. For instance I have been told there is a high demand for clear quarter sawn Osage Orange by luthiers. Holly is also a high dollar wood. Availability is also a driving factor.

Of course the log is not as valuable as the cut and dried wood. Do research. For the most part Zforums such as this may not be the best place for specialized information. If you have a question about the quality of your standing timber, your local Forister could possibly help. Call and talk to consumers of a speciality product. Some specialty consumers prefer to dry their own wood.
