Just looked at the plane, and watched the latest bid going in – over $7000 now – you could buy a complete set of Lie-Nielsen for that price with change. I know which I would go for! I just could not get excited about it.

Amazing. I am like Tony in that I wonder why anyone, who has good common sense, would put out this much money. They obviously have more money than sense. It may be a collector’s item but I would rather have the set of LN planes any day.

Current bid $7,050 thats only $47 each year of it’s life. Not bad.

What a great price. I think that it is a great deal… Can you smell the sarcasm… At what point was this plane a collectible? something fishy here.

This is a very early Bailey Plane. One of the first made. Lots of plane collectors out there….

Jim Bode has a Stanley #1 going on ebay today and it could take off price-wise too. And I thought we are heading into a recession – maybe these guys don’t drive cars.

Pretty odd design. Then again, you’re right; it’s 150 yrs old. A lot of odd contraptions came out of the mid 19th century in the U.S.

I’m trying to figure out the concept behind the ‘spring’ on the knob. I wonder if it was supposed to be some way to cut down on vibration and chatter. Since the whole frog is basically the top half of the plane, there was bound to be a lot of chatter since tolerances on the casting were probably loose.
