Topic tags/keywords: resource handsaws refurbishing

Spent a whopping whole $4 today, doing handsaws. A Thumbhole I’ve been looking at was picked up for the sawnuts. I’ll re-hab the handle at a later date, and pick up another saw (@ $2) for another set of sawnuts. I needed these for another saw almost done. Thumbhole:

Brass medallion: DISSTON (over a keystone) U.S.A. No etch, as of yet. “Sway Back” blade , four sawnuts + medallion. Bottom part of handle MIA. Looks like a 6-7 ppi tooth pattern.

Ok. Saw #2 a little newer. same price though. Nickel (??) plated medallion: WARRENTED (over an “Eagle”) SUPERIOR Three sawnuts + medallion. Straight back blade, can’t see any etch, yet. More on that handle, in a minute:

Handle is Plywood! But, the plys are very thick ones. Shallow grain of wheat carving. No breaks/cracks. Tooth pattern seems to change on the way to the handle area. By the handle, looks like at least a 9 ppi? And yes, there is a “hanger-hole” out at the end.

Both saw blades are straight as can be. RUSTY, though. Plywood handle does have asplit near the top, between two of the plys. Sawnuts from this one will be used for that $1.21 backsaw i’m working on. One last look:

Well, that’s enough walking about for today, i have to go to work ( “day job”) after while. Need to rest up for that 12 hour shift….

Well don’t just sit there and post. Get busy so we can see the rehab pics.
Hey, they were worth the price just for the saw nuts.
Get after it.
Good haul.
Forgot to add…......Get rid of the plywood. Just my not so humble opin.

Plywood might serve as a pattern for a real saw handle? Working 12 hour shifts, 7 out of every 14 days, doesn’t leave much time to “play”. Every other weekend is a “work” weekend, was in the ER last night. Work tonight, off tomorrow, on the next two after that, get off Saturday morning, take a nap, and its RE-_HAB TIME!
