This is probably the wrong forum to post this in but hopefully someone will give me an answer. How do you view replies in a topic such as Stumpy Nubs with almost 4500 replies? Say you wanted to see post no. 3000? I see no way to get there except start at 1st page which is 1-30, get next 30 and so on. With 4479 replies that’s kind of hard to get there. Most of the forums I read have a box to chose page no.

I’m sure there’s a simple answer but so far I’ve not found it. Thanks for any help. Bob

I’m with you, Bob.

I’ve been here a long time, and if there is a simple way to do what you are asking, I have not figured it out yet either.

You also have my “vote” if you will. I find it amazing how much information will get lost with topics that grow so large as to be inaccessible, and finally avoided by readers. The one you are referring to is not the only one to grow so large. This issue has been discussed before but not with much civility.

Just post in it. I can’t imagine anyone caring if you posted, “just posting to get to the bottom”. You’ll probably get a lot of welcomes:)

It would be good to have a nice way to do it. If you post, it will take you to the end. You will often see post in large threads that just say something like “Hi, posting just to catch up”.

I think bob is wanting to get to something specific somewhere in the middle of such a topic and not just “catch up” to the latest post.

Case in point might be sitting down to read the first 500 posts today and tomorrow the next 500, next day 500, etc. The only way to do that right now requires +30, scroll down, +30, scroll down, +30, scroll down, +30, scroll down, +30, ETC. ad nauseum. Even being able to bookmark a specific post number(for future reference) could help a lot.

I’ve noticed that Martin has done the pagination feature using Ajax callbacks. I don’t know what data is being passed back and forth from the pagination script, and I’m really to lazy to pull up the source code and look LOL. I would assume it’s based off of the topic id number, and then whatever post the page is currently on, and pressing the button pulls the previous or next 30 posts.

It wouldn’t be that difficult to go directly to a post, but listing them even in 30 post sets for larger threads like stumpy’s would be almost impossible to get on the page and remain readable.

Thanks for the replies and interest in my post. I was looking at one of the gun forums that I frequent and one of their threads had over 7500 posts on 301 pages. From the first page you could click on 1 thru 11, page 51, 101, or last page. Going to page 101, you could go up 102 thru 111, 151 or 201, or last page. Same all the way to page 301, making it relatively easy to get to a specific page or posting.

Not really any problem to me but often I like to find a prior posting. Hope I have explained it well enough.

I really enjoy this forum and have learned a lot from you guys. I’ll be posting some pics of my shop soon.
