Topic tags/keywords: question planer jointer kity

I have found a 12” Kity jointer for sale locally. Has anyone ever used a Kity?
I understand that they are made in France.

I would love some input on the reliability and quality of this machine before buying it.

The price is right as long as it is a decent machine.
It is 220Volt, single phase, on wheels.

Thank you all for your help.

I guess no one else has used one before either.

I’ll take a look at it and just decide from that.

Kity makes some nice machines. Parts will be costly or
not possible to get.

The machine is a jointer/planer. Looks like it has a mortising
chuck but no mortiser table. You can get one from Laguna
Tools and adapt it to fit.

The machine appears to be missing it’s fence. You can retrofit
a fence from a Robland or fabricate one yourself – not hard to
do at all.

Loren,

Thanks for the comments. I’d appreciate any more help you could give since I now own the jointer.

You are correct, it is a planer jointer, the machine was purchased without the planer parts installed. I was told all of the parts to make the planer work were purchased later and are included. That I haven’t look through too much yet.

The jointer portion itself is in excellent condition and works great (had to try it out last night).

The fence is missing. I think I’ll attempt making one myself. I’d love to know what it originally looked like to get some ideas. Hopefully I can get a manual for it.

A jointer fence just has to be straight and hold a 90 degree
setting. That’s mostly what you will use it for.

I made a tilting fence for an old jointer I had that
had a missing fence. It worked fine. I got the idea
from the old Fine Woodworking article about how to
build a wooden 8” jointer, written in the 1970s.

You can get straight aluminum extrusions from 80-20.
There are a couple of guys on Ebay that sell
overstock of the extrusions cheaply. Just watch
Ebay and you’ll see something useful eventually.

In a pinch you can just copy/adapt the various do-it-yourself
router table fences out there. I made one for my
router table years ago and never felt compelled to
buy a fence because mine worked so well… though it’s
sort of ugly.

Look for pictures of the Kity 2600. The fence
on that machine isn’t anything special at all.

With a big jointer cutterhead make sure you have
a guard for the back of the cutterhead, too. Center-
mount fences for these European jointers always
have one.
