Hi alll

i have just purchased a appox 100 year old work bench and i have a question as you can imagine the joints are abit open does anyone have any ideas as to what i can do to close the joints as i would love to restore this beautifull bench when i can i will post a picture so you guys can see it

Usually if they are glued joints, you try to take them apart, clean them up and then re-glue them.

gary i must admit im scared of ruining the wood is there anyway of disolving the glue to make it easyer to pry apart

if it is old and you take apart the glue joints you might want to use structural epoxy to glue it back together because the joints will be loose and regular yellow glue might not work as well.

If it’s 100 years old it’s probably hide glue. I forget what is used to soften it up. Try heat (hair dryer).

Vinegar will soften up hide glue.

Heat will definitely loosen the hide glue.
