I like the looks of this wood. However, it is very hard and I now have a bit more respect for it.
The long blank split while doing the final drilling. I glued it back together but there is a slightly noticeable glue line. I have decided that the next time I will try to find larger blanks, maybe 2” x 2”! ;-)
This kit called for 3/4” but with the largest diameter at .539, plus any bulge you want to add, it is very close.
I also had to make bushings for the long tube as the ones I had were slightly undersize. I still think it is due to the tube being undersized and am awaiting a response back from the vendor.
This will be one to show off with!
