If you are referring to Freud Avanti blades, they are good blades.

However, Home Depot sells (not sure if they still do) a line of knockoff blades called Avanti which are not affiliated with Freud, and in my opinion, not great blades. Fine for rough work, but gave me quite a bit of burning and kickback on a circ saw.

Are you referring to tablesaw or circ saw blades?

The Freud Avanti blades are no longer made. HD sells a blade under the Avanti name that even uses a logo that looks like the one Freud used, but there’s no association whatsover, and unfortunately no similarities in quality. The new “Avanti” and “Avanti Pro” blades at HD are mediocre Asian imports that aren’t suitable for woodworking IMHO. There are many, many better choices on the market….Freud Diablo, Freud Industrial, Onsrud, Oshlun, CMT ITK Plus, DeWalt Precision Trim, etc. All good lines usually in the $25 to $50 range. The Onsrud blades are industrial blades made in Germany being closed out for a fraction of retail.

Alex – This may borderline on political and others may not share my view, but I’d encouraging folks to avoid them. Pawning these blades off as Freud look-a-likes is deplorable IMO, and it irks me because many unsuspecting people probably think they bought a Freud blade. There are lots of other choices of cheap bludgeon blades around that don’t pretend to be some other high quality blade…. why support these snakes? We’re all free to do as we like, but I’d pick any cheap blade over these as a matter of principle.

Look closely:

Thanks Knottscott. I have a Freud Avanti 80 tooth Ultra Fine Crosscut blade and love it, so I’m sure I would have bought another Avanti blade someday assuming it would be the same quality. I didn’t know they were different. As for the original post, I like the Diablo blades too and use them at work a lot. I think they’re good quality for the price. Another good one for the price is CMT if you get a good one. I know Knotscott reviewed a couple of them that weren’t so good, but I guess I had better luck, possibly a quality control issue.

The CMT Orange series is generally a great line of industrial blades, but I got two defective model 213.040.10’s in a row from two different stores….hopefully just two isolated cases by coincedence. I still own a CMT Orange 210.080.10 plywood blade that’s excellent, and certainly won’t avoid them. The CMT ITK and ITK Plus line are very good too…pretty comparable to the Freud Diable and former Freud Avanti.
