Ridgid Orbital Sander R2601
I just picked one of these up last week. It has a dial for 1-6 on the handle, but it doesn’t seem to turn very fast even when it’s on 6, (the highest setting). Did I get a defective unit or do they turn pretty slowly anyway?

Is it an inverse speed selector. Ie: 1 being the fast speed to 6 being the slowest?

They are not supposed to spin fast. The vibration is what does the work, the spin + orbital motion is to create a random scratch pattern.

Thanks Sarit. I think 6 is the highest setting, I was expecting it to rotate faster but I’ve never used one before. I have a palm sander and an old Craftsman buffer so I was expecting it to work more like a buffer I think. It’s hard to see the speed dial when you have your hand over it.
