I have become a big fan over the last few years of Amazon, but today is a bad day if you are a New York resident who likes to order your tools online. As of an hour ago a new law went into effect which forces Amazon.com to collect sales tax on all items purchased by NY residents.

I loved the going into one of the big box stores to get a hands on feel of the tool I wanted, then go online and get it at a great price with free shipping and no tax, but thanks to the greedy politicians here in NY we can kiss those days goodbye. This is a bitter pill to swallow considering I have been collecting gift cards from birthdays and Christmas on my Amazon account which cannot be redeemed for cash, so it burns my a$% to have to waste that money on more taxes! I realize this law may not affect many of you, but one of your states might be next on this very slippery slope. FYI.

Mike

They have to suck your dollars out of your pockets somehow. Write your congresswoman.

I like you live in NY and would not be surprised to here that they were trying to pass a tax- tax.
The Pennsylvania border is spittin distance from my place. My neighbor in PA has the same house as me and twice the land, his property tax is 1/3rd of mine.
Gotta love the Empire state.

Gary, that would only add fuel to next years “Congressional Letter Writing Tax”

FrankA I’m up here in Monroe county, which supposedly has the distinct honor of being the highest taxed county in the country. No surprise, when schools get about a 10% raise every year, there is tons of welfare, and other “social justice” programs. Sorry, but I’m bitter. This is what liberal democrats have to show for a state. Sad, I really like the cities, geography, and so on, but this bleeding-heart liberal foolishness is just bankrupting this place.

Legally speaking, we are supposed to pay sales taxes on untaxed internet shopping when we file our income taxes each year. So, just think of it as you doing your part to be an upstanding, law abiding citizen. The rest of us thank you for shouldering a larger part of the enormous debt that our government is in. :)
