Does anyone know of any classes that are offered in or around Michigan or nearby states that teach box making in the Andrew Crawford Style? I would love to go abroad and learn for a week from the master Andrew himself but the cost is outside of my budget. I have been down to Mark Adams School in Indiana and have enjoyed a week’s worth of class on general veneering at his school. But they just don’t offer any classes on box making like the ones Andrew Crawford makes. They do offer ones from Doug Stove (who is a good box maker in his own right) but just not the same style or caliber as the AC’s boxes are. I have noticed there are a few individuals on the form that make these styles of boxes and I was wondering if you may know or have any information on weekend or weeklong classes or interest in individual tutoring that could help me learn this style of box making? If so please let me know either via the web or Pm.

Thanks Richard

I’m not aware of any but you may wish to suggest to Marc Adams that he run a class like that next year. He does make a lot of effort to get new classes and instructors every year so if you bring it to his attention he might look into putting one into the 2013 curriculum. Depends upon whether or not he thinks it will generate enough interest to fill a class and the availability of a good instructor.

JAAune, I did recommend to Mark last year to get Andrew Crawford for box making and Darrel Perth of the Green and Green movement. He did get Darrel as that was one I wanted to attend also but when I went to sign up it was full. They did put me on the back up list and they called me the week I was on vacation for the following week so that didn’t work out either. But he never did get Andrew but that could be for a lot of reasons on both sides of the coin. Busy schedules can make things hard to arrange and if Andrew wanted to come to the states?

As you say, there could be a lot of reasons why Andrew never made it on the curriculum. Sometimes the reason is as simple as the guy not being interested in teaching in a classroom setting.

I agree as well, as we all have our own venues in life…but I guess I was just disappointed as I really would have enjoyed learning some of his skills in box making.

I just received Andrew Crawford’s new letter about the up and coming class schedule …. Man I wish he was closer.

Have your say...
