You are correct. Many of are vets and a few still in the military.

used to just show a copy of my DD-214 to get the discount then they stopped accepting it.

How do you get a VA Card?

I know that Lowe’s does this, use it all the time. I just show them my old military ID. I was told that HD only did this on Veteran’s Day. Both are close by me so it would be nice if HD did this everyday! (I still like Lowe’s better)

It’s a va medical benifit card. This goes for all vets. Are you getting yours? If no why not ? it was part of Uncle Sams deal !

I guess I have to go ask for one.. Don’t have any health issues so, it never came up.

Thanks for the clarity.

All the HDs and Lowes in my area give veterans 10% discount. All you need is your ID card. Have a VA card, but have never used it, only to receive medical care at the VA.
To get a VA card you have to apply at your local VA clinic, to receive medical care. Not all Vets can get a VA card. You must have a medical disibility rating as approved by the VA, or retired military. Not all medical care at the VA is free, as some think. You must have as a minimum a 50% disability to receive free care. If you are rated less than 50%, copayments take effect. For those who do not have a rated disability, and are accepted by the VA for medical care, your medical insurance will be billed, then normal procedures of your insurance will take affect, i.e., you pay the remaining.

Nothing to add, but thanks for your service.

I don’t want to get into a pissn’ match about what is approved and what is not. But, about two years ago I went to a local VA medical clinic to inquire about an ID card after being told about the discounts for veterans at Lowes. The local VA medical clinic said I had to go to the “Department of Veterans Affairs” office to obtain the card. I went there (Lakewood, Wa) in my area with a copy of my DD214. They checked my service in thier computers, took my photo and I received a military ID card in the mail about two weeks later. I use the card for everything I purchase at Home Depot, Lowes and Cabela’s. I get 10% off on everything in these stores, every day even if it is on sale or a clearance item. On the back of my card it says: For Questions Concerning Medical Benefits: contact 1-877-222-VETS (8387) or They told me at the VA clinic that every veteran is allowed to use the VA clinics. One thing I have noticed is that none of these stores advertise this benefit for veterans. You have to ask. There are probably more stores I have not found yet. Good Luck…................
