Topic tags/keywords: ash question carving traditional arts and crafts

Hey, I’m looking for a seven foot length of ash wood that can be carved into a staff. The more unfinished the better, a sapling uprooted in a storm would be ideal, roots and all it would just add character. There just aren’t any good wild places for ash trees down here for me to harvest wild, and I’m having a dickens of a time finding a piece long enough online. Trade, barter, or sell, if I find the ideal piece I’m way open to negotiations.

Thank you kindly,

John

Due to emerald ash borer, many places in the Great Lakes area, including here, are under quarantine for “firewood,” specifically ash, but generally meaning anything but kiln dried lumber.

Since it’s accidental introduction in Detroit, it’s spread much faster and wider than it would naturally by careless movement of such wood.
