How can I view the first posts in a large forum topic?

I’d like to read the “Handplanes of your dreams” topic:

which has almost 9000 replies, but I only see recent posts. I can click the “show previous 30 replies” button to see the, um, previous 30 replies, but I don’t want to click it 300 times to go back to the beginning.

Am I overlooking something? How can I easily go back to the beginning of the topic to see the first posts?

Heres an idea.
Log out and then go to the site as a guest.
Go to the handplane topic, and as a guest, it will open to the beginning.

Hope this helps.

Yes, this is a real deficiency in the forums. Long threads have only been an issue for the last year or so, but it would be nice if the site administrators can insert some better navigation when they get a chance. Of course they’re busy making the site awesome in other ways, too. :-)

Just go to forum, then exit. If you enter the next time thru pulse page by clicking on the number of new posts, and voila, you are at the latest. But it is required to read a few hundred first : )
