Topic tags/keywords: box dowel alignment question

Hi. I’m fairly new to wood working and am putting together a little box. My question is, if the dowels and holes don’t quite line up, what do you do? Glue dowels in the holes, cut them flush and start over? Any ideas would help greatly.

Thanx.

That will work. Do you know how it got off so it doesn’t happen again?

There are some self centering jigs at the big box stores. They are fair for lining up dowel holes. Harbor frieght has a pretty good one. A brad point bit is your friend, forstner is better.

A simple idea that I use every time – - Put a slight taper on the end of the dowel before driving it home. If the dowel is small enough, I use a simple pencil sharpener. If it’s bigger I give it a “spin” on a belt sander.
