I was excited to get an email from you on Saturday informing me that my project (Mantle Shelf With Carved Panels) had made it to the daily Top Three. It did make me smile and I would have loved to share it with my Facebook friends. However, and disappointingly, it never appeared. What gives?

Hi Andy
I would suggest you send a PM to who ever said your project was in the top three.

Jim, the notifier is automatically sent by Lumberjocks when a project makes it in to the Daily Top Three, and if I remember correctly it has some kind of link you click to get the project shared on Facebook. I don’t do facebook and I have already deleted the email from when I got in the top 3.

I think that all the DT3 projects are posted on the Lumberjock’s facebook page, and the link then lets you post it to your own page. But I could be wrong.

The Daily Top 3 seems to be a formula of views / favorites count for the past rolling 24 hours.

At some period of time your project was in the Daily Top 3, but, it would drop off as soon as your posting is 24 hours old. So, theoretically, it could make the Daily Top 3 for a few minutes before it drops off.

This is only my observation of a recent project of mine which made the Daily Top 3. Perhaps one of the moderators could comment here.

Andy, I just checked your project, and it doesn’t have the Daily Top Three badge on it. You can check any of today’s top three and see that it has a goldish looking marker with the day it was in the DT3 right above the name of the poster on the left side. Once a project is in the 3 it doesn’t go away either (mine is from two months ago and the badge is still there).

So, the mystery deepens….. Why did you get the automatic notifier if it wasn’t in the 3? Or, if it was, why did the marker go away? Tune in next time…..

It’s a little strange but I don’t know how they select the projects and what the criteria is. I noticed today that some third-party image had stangely replaced one of mine on my project page. Could my Lumberjocks account have been hacked I wonder…............? ;-)

Seems like the Lumberjocks Top 3 announcement I received was, well, a software glitch. It’s nice to know that our work is being judged by a computer program that is as fickle as we humans. Whether it’s quite as discerning, well, we’ll never know what projects were overlooked.

Andy, I believe the daily top 3 is based on number of views and/or number of comments (someone correct me if I’m wrong), so basically the members decide.

I just want to know if I can get a “certificate worthy of framing” :^)

Or better yet…. a Dunkin’ Donuts gift cart!

I posted my air compressor box on a whim and was surprised it hit the top three…. I guess it just touched on a common problem that doesn’t have an off the shelf solution.

I personally don’t want to tag LG to FB, as my FB account has my true identity on it, and I log into all the web forums I frequent under an alias.

Just too many nut jobs out there these days.

Has it ever bothered anyone else that merely viewing a project adds my vote for the Daily Top 3 / 15 list?

Wouldn’t it be better to be able to ”+1” a project if it really appeals to me?

I find that I’ve begun weighing whether or not to view a project based on if I expect it will be good or not. Maybe I’m too judgemental on this. I’ve seen some real crap make the DT3 and it boggles my mind at times.

Here’s one for you! I keep all of my “Projects” on “Watch” in case someone comments and I then get back to them.

Someone Commented on One of my Two “Drill Press Table” Posts a few weeks ago.

I went there. Much to my amazement I made the Daily Top Three For Both of them and it still shows as such.

First was on March 14, 2010. It had 4,505 Views, 31 Favourited, and 21 Comments. ....... Second one on March 15,2010 had 4,020 Views, 20 Favourited and 21 Comments. YIKES! Maybe back then all we had on here was “Projects” ...LOL…

I have No Idea what that means or “Does For You”, so I clicked on the “Daily Top Three” Plaque or whatever you call it and that brings up ALL of the Top Three Projects.

Get this …... 6,548 Of Them! Up to about 30 Minutes ago.

Wonder if My Cheque got lost in the Mail or something???? ...LOL…

EDIT: I just checked my other Projects. FOUR of them also made it to the “Daily Top Three” Feb. To March of 2010.

Have your say...
