Man I wish you hadn’t posted this! I already have two of these but I’ll find a use for a third one cause I can’t pass this up.

Gap;

HD put this same one on special last Xmas for $27.99 and we bought two of them. They are not top of the line but, have been very pleased with the one I opened. Still have one in the box as one was planed to be installed permanently in the miter saw station I was building over the 2010 holidays. Changed my design and connected the MS station into the DC system.

Thanks for sharing the sale info.

Good luck.

Thanks for posting. How loud are these vacs? Can you talk to someone with they run?

I have a shopvac that’s a screamer.

You know you need a new vac… when your PC router makes less noise than your vac.

I keep looking at the Festool (137 CFM) and Fein (Turbo II – 116 CFM on sale right now), but have not been able to pull the trigger. My vac has 170 CFM until I sand for 5 minutes, then it has ??? CFM.

Thanks for any info you can give me on the rigid vacs.

Rick,

Thanks. I’m looking for user perception.

I can look at test data (Fine Woodworking):

Fein – 65.5 dB
Festool – 58.5 – 68.5 dB
Rigid – 75 – 78.5 dB
ShopVac QL – 72 – 74.5 dB.

They say a 10 dB increase will double the loudness.

I need to make a trip to HD and get them to turn on the vacs.

Thanks again.

Doug -

I started with a 16gal Ridgid and moved to a Fein Turbo. The Ridgid was just too loud – basically one of the loudest tools in my shop. By my iPhone sound level app, it was 90-93 db (model #WD1650). My Fein measures between 65 and 70db by the same iPhone app and is basically the quietest power tool I own. The Ridgid sounds like a jet taking off and hearing protection was absolutely required. With the Fein, I feel like an idiot if I do put on hearing protection. The voices in my head are probably louder.

But you can’t beat the Ridgid on price. Add a separator and a HEPA filter on the Ridgid and you’ll still be under $120-150 with this deal.

Wow, a 20 dB difference. That makes it 4X louder.

I’m sure the rigid is quiter than what I have now, but I’m looking for something that I can do some cleaning without putting on hearing protection.

Thanks for the info.

Went to HD to check this out today and passed on it. It has 1 7/8” hose where the other Ridgids have 2 1/2” so it wouldn’t work for me. Thanks for posting this though.
