Topic tags/keywords: jig question

I found this video morning on this dovetail jig. It very inexpensive compared to several others out there.
I wonder if it lives up to its video?
It seems a bit fiddly to get set up but cuts the joints accruately.

Bob, I have a Keller jig, which like this one can be used on any size project. It only cuts through dovetails, but it can be used with two different size bits for two ranges of board thickness, one up to 3/8” and one up to 3/4”.
It can also be used for box joints, but I’ve never tried it for that joint, would rather do them on the table saw.
It’s very accurate and easy to set up.

Bob: I’ve seen it at the wood working shows. They didn’t have it in action, just a board with the pattern and the resulting wood.

It has a review in one of the woodworking magazines a few months ago. I don’t remember which magazine. The guy at the show showed me the article.

It is interesting to be able to make dovetails on long pieces, but moving the jig for every single cut and making the storyboards looks like a pain.

I was not so much interested in one for myself as I was curious if it would make a good entry level jig for younger folks with a tight budget.
Apparently Harbor Freight has a special on them for $57.00 and for that much you can’t get hurt too bad.

Seems like a good price for this standard of jig – I can also see the advantage of long continuous board that the Leigh cannot do. I would say its worth it for occasional use, but it will never replace the leigh for versatiltiy in dovetail size variation.

Just think how much all the backing boards will cost over the years.
