This is ground that’s been covered, but since it was stated that the current situation was temporary, and nothing seems to be changing, I thought I’d bring it up again for comments.

I personally don’t like the way things are now with the titles of off-topic posts being hidden.

When I go to the main forum page, I see a bunch of posts that just say “off-topic content”, and I have no idea whether I want to click on them or not. I’m not always in the mood to read a political post, but at least if the title is showing, I know not to click on it. The way it stands now, the only options are to click on every off-topic post to decide whether or not you want to continue to read it, or ignore all off-topic posts and run the risk of missing something really good that has nothing to do with politics or religion.

I say this tongue-in-cheek, but maybe we need another forum called “For Liberals, Conservatives, Religious Zealots, and Militant Atheists Only”. Then, all religious and political content could be posted there, and Martin would only have to hide the titles in that forum.

Perhaps in place of the actual titles, the message could read ”Inflammatory Content. Click to Raise Your Blood Pressure”.

yep, your right, if were going to have this political and religious content here, seeing the title , instead of having to guess would be nice..

For those who may not know, and it’s not that easy to discover I’ll grant you, the non-shop titles are shown here.

I would prefer it went the other way myself. I would like an option to completely block all off topic content, including this feedback forum. The problem is that you can’t always tell what a post is about from the title, and some of the titles are upsetting in themselves. I come here ONLY for woodworking, and not interested in anything social. That is what Facebook is for (and I don’t do that either).

I had pretty much quit using Lumberjocks until the current blocking of the off-topic stuff was done, but since then I have been very active. If things go back to like they were, I will be gone.

I’m sorry, Charlie, but … since I have the OT titles blocked, I have NO IDEA what your post is about …. ;-)

I just discovered though that if you are signed in, go to the pulse page and click the “show off-topic content” button, then it also shows when you list all forums. So you can have what you want easily enough.

I feel that it won’t work. People can put any title on something then write about another topic entirely. That is difficult to control. Then there is the way things are interpreted. If everyone would select the appropriate area to put their message in then it would help. If I list my message as bumpers then it could be a 1×12 for the back of your truck or numerous other things that I won’t even mention here. The issue is controlling how it happens and that is a MAJOR task. Most of the off topic messages I choose to not open. I have to look at the writer than make a somewhat educated guess. Just the way I see it.
How would you accomplish this task if you were in charge of it? Lets have a plan as we tell our politicians when they campaign for something. You are campaigning so present a well thought out plan. That is the way to begin …or so I think.

ummmm, how about we leave religion, politics, etc.. to their own respective web sites. Now there’s an idea!

Things are not that simple. Things become a life style. You are a woodworker so you have a wood worker lifestyle and you take it with you where ever you go. If you are a religious person than that becomes a lifestyle and you take it with you even to the wood working site. You think like a religious person while you work wood. If YOU to to a religious site then you would think like a woodworker there. It can get deeper than just leave it at home and don’t bring it here. That makes it hard to control. I am not disagreeing with what you are saying but I think it involves more than a surface glance.

Yes, that does work if you want to use the pulse page. I prefer to view forum topics, though, as opposed to all new posts which you would have to view from the pulse page. But maybe I should try that for a while and see if I can get accustomed to it.

I saw this topic last time, and didn’t understand it.
Now I see it coming up again and I’m going to speak this time..
I’m confused, my page looks like this…

Doesn’t yours?
Have I got something set differently? Or have you?
Or am I missing the problem on what I’ve shown above?
Or am I just having a blonde moment?
Oops, can’t say that.
Sorry.
