Topic tags/keywords: question cedar

I have had a project idea running through my mind for quite sometime now, I have even had dreams about it.
Anyways has anyone ever made a music box that you crank a handle which plays a tune? I have some idea of how to make it, cut holes in the top & front of the box, cut a 1 inch hole in the sides to run a dowel rod through, then on the dowel rod make like plunkers to plunk the notes as you turn it, a bar of wood connected to the back of the box cut to hit the plunks. I hope Im not confusing anyone, but thats the idea I have running in my mind.

Something like this, if you used different lengths or thicknesses of wood, would make several notes at the same time-

OR— if you want to get fancy-

That looks like a fun way to waste a month of shop time!
