This weekend I was able to visit Hearne Hardwoods in Oxford PA (great place) and I picked up a large 8/4 cherry slab that is roughly 7” long and 2” wide. They had it on sale due to a large knot and some edge rot. I plan on building a coffee table out of the slab and was hoping to do natural edge but I don’t think I can with the edge rot. I think that I will use a jig saw to trace the natural flow of the piece while getting rid of the rot. My question is regarding the large knot hole. The pieces in the knot are there but very loose so I wanted to lock them in by filling the hole with epoxy then flattening the piece. What type of epoxy should I use and are there any secrets to filling in knot holes while preserving the loose center? Thanks I will try to get a picture later to post of the piece. |
