I’m sorta partial to my DVR XP. I looked at both, and each has it’s own advantages. I studied it down to how much room I have in my itty bitty shop (2/3 of one bay of a 3 bay garage), and total lathe length. I did not get the legs, as I mounted on top of my Craftsman 8-drawer bench with 2” maple top. Plus, I liked the idea of no belt.
The head doesn’t slide on the ways ike the Jet, but it does a 360 like the Jet. It was a tough decision, as I learned on the Jet in class held at our local Woodcraft. After 3 months of stewing, I think my final decision was based on the overall length.

Good luck!

“I said pardon”! Not that there is anything wrong with being gay, I don’t think you should address everyone on the site as such or try to single out that sector. Just saying….. Of course, you could watch your spelling.

Hey Rusty, don’t buy a lathe at all, buy some tight fitting t shirts and leather pants and vaseline and earrings with the money instead. If there’s any change, you could bling up your old lathe with some purple paint and leopard skin trim.

vaseline??.. how unsafe… try silicone instead… Sorry Pitbull. I use a Jet 1220 and i had to get a bed extension, but it never stays in line and I can get wobbles when I turn thin stock, if you get a 1642 please post a review. Though I think you’d get more replies if you edited your question.. I know you were not courting just my opinion.. lol.
Thanks ~ eric
