When I joined LJs about 18 months ago, I was able to look at the set of new Projects that appeared each day, and perhaps respond to a few. Nowadays, the number appearing is so huge that I find it hard to keep up.
This is not a complaint, just a comment on the increase in activity and membership.
You are not imagining it Don, it really does happen like that, I have noticed it too.
The project traffic seems to have got so intense that I find it hard to keep up with and often miss great items and posts. Perhaps we are getting too old for today, it seems that every time Intel launches a new chip that doubles the CPU speed, my brain halves the old speed. I can remember back in the good old days when a cutting board post appeared every other day in between a pen post, then it went to pens with cutting boards on a daily basis, lol.
Have fun
If you think you can see a difference in 18months, you can imagine the difference I see since I joined over five years ago!
I used to enjoy being able to check out every single project posted, and commenting on many of them. I don't even try to look at every project anymore. It's no one's fault…. just the nature of the beast. I've resigned myself to knowing that my enjoyment of all the great content on the site is strictly hit-or-miss.
I still look at all the projects, well, at least the headline picture of all of them. There are 15 per page, so it really doesn't take that long to look at a few pages each day, and delve into the ones that look interesting in more detail.
There are just so many brilliant things going on here it's a shame to miss any of them!
This makes life a little easier.
Or, in slower timer, you can get the catalogues and look through at your leisure.
Gene, Neil is our official Pie Man. He even prices his work in Pies. He's also claimed to have the biggest set of Pie recipes, but so far he has not put them out.
Santa went to the Doctors with a problem.
Doctor: What seems to be the problem?
Santa: I seem to have a mince pie stuck up my bottom!
Doctor: Well your in luck because I've got just the cream for that!
I agree that I used to take a least a brief look at every project and a longer look at the projects that I found interesting - occasionally commenting. I can't keep up any more. That probably is a good thing.
I'll take this opportunity to campaign for a change I think would be good. I wish the software was in place to not accept a project for posting from anyone who has posted another project in the last X hours. Initially I would set X at 24 hours and reserve the option of changing that in the future. It's a simple idea and it would prevent people from posting multiple projects in short order and throwing other projects off the first page prematurely.
What I forgot to mention originally, is that I now feel rather guilty about not commenting on projects because there a so many - especially as I know how much I look forward to seeing responses to anything that I post myself, and how sad I am not to get those automatic e-mails informing me that: "Fred Bloggs has commented on my post".
I know what you mean Don, and I just hope nobody gets offended when they get low responses to their posts.
You might also mention Don, that Fred Bloggs is the UK version of Joe Doe. lol
I've only been an LJ for 249 days and I've seen an increase as well.
I too feel torn about my view and posting to all the projects. After a while it felt, I don't know…..redundant? to constantly post "Nice job!", or "Wow" or "I really like what/how you did such-and-such" and so stopped posting on all the projects, now I feel bad that I don't knowing like Don said, I sure like it when someone posts on mine.
To all the LJs posting projects - I haven't seen a bad one yet, they are all great and inspiring
HA, here's something to ponder, I have looked at every project in the project section. I did that over the first 100 days I was here. Now I just look about twice a day and admire each piece. I only comment on pieces that I feel the need to comment on.
I do kinda wish there was a button on each project that I could click to say "good Job". This way the builder gets a good idea how many people may have really looked at thier handywork.
I need that software that lets you talk into the microphone and it types what you speak for you. I would comment on more stuff but I don't like to type and my typing is way too slow. I communicate better when talking than when typing.
This was discussed here a long long long time ago.
