Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron’s cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience. Pretty much sums up our government: Omnipotent Moral Busybodies - – who torment us with the approval of their own conscience -- "_If we did all the things we are capable of doing, we would literally astonish ourselves_." Joe, I respect your right for posting what you believe in and these are the certainties: I wholeheartedly agree with you and your posts; I am not hiding my head in the sand; I fully intend to vote and persuade all others to do so. That said, I do also believe that LJ is intended to be a site for all who love woodworking and for sharing such interest with related posts. Let’s keep it pure, shall we? There are more than plenty of other sites, plus radio and TV that address that problem. I propose that we keep LJ for its intended purpose. Thank you. -- Paul - The sweetest sound in my shop, next to Mozart, is what a hand plane makes slicing a ribbon. |
