Just bought a game call blank from woodturnersatalog.com called Moponie Wood. I can’t seem to find anything about this wood. It’s nice and all, but I wanted a bit of background on the wood ;-(

Anyone ever heard of moponie wood?

I know you are asking a serious question:
And I have never heard of it.
First thing I thought of…..this came from a piece of extremely large piece of timber….........150 years ago when they used horse drawn equipment the fella that found these logs would say…......”gonna need one moponie that haul that wood !”

Sounds like it would be a great wood to use for all kinds of projects.

A quick search on google images and it sure looks like what I got was Mopane!

I honestly just went with the price (it was the cheapest!), but it looks like a nice wood. And I might be mistaken, but I think the cocobolo blank I ordered had more weight to it than the mopane.

I’ll post of the projet once it’s completed (could be a while though, I’m saving these for when I can turn like a pro ;p
