I am getting a new respirator and i was wondering how you tell which size you are. there was a small medium and large on the site that i am ordering from and since this is the first respirator that i will be buying I’m not sure what size to go with.

Good question. I’ll be ordering one soon as well.

This is one size fits all.

Dick Cain has one, as well as I do. Works great. The fan helps you breath without effort.

If you bite down hard on your cigarette the filter will take care of the small particles. This worked well for my dad and my grandad. But of course that was years ago. Grandad died at 92 and dad is still kicking at 71. bbqking

Dennis,

I used to teach and still substitute in a vocational school. The students in the areas that wear respirators (age 15 to 18) usually wear mediums. Of course, if you are big (or small) for your age you may need to adjust accordingly.

I’m looking at either the same one that Marc has or the Black North one. i liked the north one but it seems like most of the cartridges are for chemicals and not particles so I’m not sure yet.

I have 2 North respirators. The chemical filters are effective for particulate matter as well, generally they are actually more effective because of the pore size being smaller. A good pre-filter will double or triple your cartridge life.

To check fit use a smoke pencil, put the mask on, and breathe normally. Move the smoke pencil around the edges of the mask, the only place the smoke should deflect is at the exhaust, directly in front of your mouth. If it moves anywhere else, adjust the mask & repeat.

I have also found that the blue North is more comfortable, it is softer than the black one.
