THe Lie Nielson show is comming to town here in Phoenix and I was wondering what to expect from this? I want to get 1 of their hand planes (at least) do they offer discounts at the show?

Just want to see if it’s worth the effort.

I went to the show in Denver a couple months ago.

I think the normal deal is that they have free shipping, and you don’t pay the tax on your purchases, but they don’t have any special pricing.

For me it was well worth it. They pretty much have the full line of tools on hand, and benches set up. You can try anything, and everything. As you would expect, the hosts know a lot about the tools. One guy spent a lot of time showing me how to use and set up shoulder planes, as well as explaining the pros and cons of the various sizes. I did buy a plane, and not the one that I thought I needed going in. In the end, it was worth it because I bought the right too the first time, and know how to set it up.

I went to the one in Santa Rosa last year. Didn’t buy anything, but thought it was worth it just to feel the tools and listen to the various conversations.

Great question. We’ve got one coming to Raleigh next weekend. I’ve been wondering if it is worth the 2 hr drive.

Haven’t seen any near me but got to check out their showroom a couple years ago. It’s in Warren, Maine. If you get the chance to go there, it will be worth your time. Very knowledgable and helpful staff. Answered all my questions, got to play with some new “toys”, and even bought a new plane. A very hands on place!
