A quick three day buisness trip out there and a few observations….the arch and the museum under it are a must see. Downtown St Louis is fairly desolate, hardly any traffic, very little foot traffic and a neighborhood that I thought should have alot of night life (Lacledes Landing) was fairly desolate on a Wednesday night. East St Louis in Illinios is a toilet stay away I got over there by accident. The Anheuser-Bush brewery tour is free and worth going on. I hate flying, pretty bad since I work on airplanes. The people were really friendly and the bbq was good.

Do you still get a free beer at the end of the brewery tour?

I need to get to St.Louis and do the AB tour. Been to the AB in Tampa/St. Pete area Florida (twice) & the one in Williamsburg, Va. (once). Need to do another tour and St. Louis sounds like a great idea.

I grew up near StL, but left in the mid-60’s. I worked on the arch for a week in ‘65, and on I-270, I-55, and I-70. I never toured the AB brewery, but I did pack away my share of Augie Busch’s best on those hot summer days and nights.

I’ve been back several times over the years and the biggest change is the growth of the area. When I lived there, driving west on I-70 included lots of farms once you passed thru St. Charles. Now, it’s solid “city” for 50 miles.

Maybe this boy left StL, but I’ll never leave my Cardinals. Their run to the series last year was fantastic. – lol

Did you go to the top of the Arch? The ride up in the little elevator cars is a trip in itself.

i was there a few years ago for my brother in laws wedding and i totally agree with you. Once you got past the arch and the AB brewerly it was kinda slow. Did you get a chance to go to the Old State House where they held the Dred Scott case. I got a chance to tour that place and it was amazing for a woodworker to look at. Curved crown moldings were mind boggling.

I did ride up in the arch, the ride was fun but it was a bit anticliamatic once up there though. I didnt make it into the old courthouse but got some very nice pictures of it from the arch. The ride up was fun, im 6’5”.

I like to think of myself as a bit of a photographer….

I’ve actually been to St. Louis one time, and that was in 2006 to watch the Cardinals. It was not long after the new Busch Stadium was built….I think this was #3 stadium, and what a beautiful stadium it is….this was in June, and the Cardinals were playing the Colorado Rockies on a night game…I had free tickets to see them, so it’s the only time I’ve got to go…..didn’t get to see anything except the game, and home again….Where the seats were was awful, so I decided that I had the best seat in the house right in front of my big screen tv, with HD and surrond sound…lol. Oh, and the Cardunals beat the Rockies pretty bad, so it was worth that. The Cards is my #1 team, and I average watching about 140 games a year..been a fan for years, so Sawkerf and I have something in common.. I’ve seen them win 2 World Series, and they ain’t done yet…lol.

I’ve seen the Cards play in three stadiums, but haven’t been to their new one. I first saw them sometime in the early 50’s, and went to a handful of games between then and the mid-80’s. I took my daughters to that game while we were visiting my parents. We had left field bleacher seats and they had a ball screaming at the Pirates right fielder, and got teen crushes on Andy Van Slyke. – lol

I try to get to San Francisco when the Cards play the Giants each year. There are quite a few Cards fans around here and it’s a blast trash talking the Giants fans. Nobody gets mad, but the bullcrap flows freely. – lol

In 2010, I was building some kitchen cabinets for a rabid Giants fan and we were always ragging one another about our teams. I told her that if the Cards got to the playoffs and got beat by the Giants, I was gonna put the StL logo somewhere in her cabs. – lol

Lived there from1983 to 1996.

Was at Game 7 of this year’s World Series with my daughters.

Best baseball town in the country.

Go back in the summer and you have a much better experience.

Those MO summers are one of the reasons I’ve lived in CA for almost 40 years. – lol

When I went to the game I mentioned above in June, I thought I was going to sweat to death it was so HOT…and I live in Arkansas….You are surrounded by thousands of people, and there is no air to be had…lol.
When the game was over, it was like letting 40,000 cows out of the pin at the same time…GEEZ, what a crowd….That’s whenI decided to stay home from now on…..:) But…. I wouldn’t take for the experience of going to the Cardinals game, or seeing Busch Stadium….there’s nothing like a live baseball game…. Wish I would of had time to go to a casino or two, but I’d probably have to take my wife there….:)
