Topic tags/keywords: question drill-driver lathe

Hello Everybody, I have a shopsmith mark v and am just now getting around to having time to use it after doing the majority of a renovation on our house. it has been in storage for around 6-7 years and was wondering if there is anything special I need to do other than the regular maintenance. If any of you could help so I don’t ruin it I would really appriciate it!! thanks in advance!!

Biggest prob I hear about stored SSs is that the sheaves in that vari-drive system will get gummed up. Keep ‘em clean and lubed, use a good lithium based grease.

Thanks guys I appriciate it. Just fyi Mark, I sent shopsmith an email and they didn’t respond. I’m not real happy with them right now but maybe I will try the other owners next time, thanks!

There is a tune-up process for the ShopSmith. It basically involves cleaning an a little oiling. I’m sorry I can’t give you more details.

Do you still have the owners manual?

There is a care and maintenance section that should cover everything.

Come to think of it, I think that ShopSmith has a care and maintenance section on their website…

Check out Nick Engler’s “Sawdust Sessions” on the Shopsmith web site;
