I am not one to stay up late to ring in the New Year so this morning when I awoke I had a head full of thoughts running around and crashing into one another about this the New Year. Taking care of morning business as we all do sitting there on the throne of life things came to me so I decided to write them down and send them out. Now remember these are just thoughts and as thoughts start out a bit randomized then they coalesce to something more coherent and concise.
Once finished at the throne I moved on to the next process, hmmm, it’s the new year, well check this out I need to start a new tube of toothpaste the old one is shot. How appropriate, starting a new tube of toothpaste on the first day of the New Year. Hmmm, and also, it’s Sunday the first day of the week of the first day of the New Year. Not being one either to make new years resolutions per se I thought well it’s a new year we just have to do better than the last one. First thought at doing better this year, Vote. It’s the national election year get out there and VOTE if you don’t you better not complain then. Then the thought returned wow it’s Sunday how appropriate to start the day on the first day of the week and how auspicious for those of the Christian faith to start the new year on a day of worship. Then thoughts bounced back to doing better this year and to improve ones lot in life. Which brought my thoughts to improving ones lot and what to do and how to do it and I got to thinking of how what we do affects everything around us. Like riding a bike improves your health and the ecology then I thought well if I were to buy a new car I should buy one that is better for the ecology and in buying one it would improve the world and hopefully I could purchase one that was made in this country thus effecting a better lot in life on those living and working in this country. But then driving would not improve my health.
A random thought dropped in, is it better to buy on line goods made in my own country or to purchase imported products from a local merchant? Hmm, a thought like, which is greater, to teach or to train? Check the definition to train is greater.
Back to the thinking process, those on social services should think about how that affects everyone else. Everyone else pays for their free ride, a free ride that in some cases has lasted generations. They should get a job, it improves self-esteem and ones lot in life and that makes everyone else’s lot in life easier by taking the burden off those paying for their free ride. Should I get another job or continue to try running my own business? Well after having my vocational self-esteem totally destroyed at my last job I think I’ll continue on the path of building my own business again, but if another job should present itself I might consider it but continue to do the woodworking crafts part of my business. I like what I’m doing and I’m good at it no matter what others say.
The mind is a strange place to wander around in and mine is stranger than most. What a strange set of thought processes for so early in the morning.
So proceed onward into this New Year and make it better all the way around. Happy New Year!
And then my thoughts went to The Desiderata written in 1927 by Max Ehrmann, not religious words as some might have thought but yet good words to apply to everyone’s lives:
