good point. I woke up this morning, got my coffee and sat down to read and look at some nice projects at LJ and came across this horrible thread in the forum about a Jesus america. First time I heard that one.

Horizontal mike:
“If you say “I’ll Pray For You” to an agnostic or atheist YOU should get the SAME feeling of insult and abuse! That is like telling the person that he IS IN HELL.”

As an Atheist who enjoys researching and discussing religion and it’s history, I hope people don’t think we are all like this guy.

I also enjoy politics but I learned along time ago, name calling and being the loudest and meanest doesn’t win arguments or friends. It just makes you look loud and mean. You lose everytime, even if you have a valid point.

This guy comes off so vitriol, I’m afraid to comment on his thread as he will go to my profile and attack me too.

Why bother anyway. He isn’t interested in having a constructive conversation. Eventually, people like this grow tired of yelling at people and realize how bad it makes them look and hopfully change their approach to make their point. This guy has a long way to go.

.....And at Christmas time too! Geez! Maybe he got coal in his stocking for being such a dick. Good job Santa.

Happy New Year LJ!

After days of arguing, er… I mean having a spirited political discussion… how about a 10 minute break for some light humor and something about woodworking?

Sorry, I couldn’t help it. I’m a natural born peacemaker, and nothing makes peace like a good ol’ woodworking video!

Good suggestion, Great video!
why do I feel like I’m waiting to be verbally run over by a biker dude with a hate boner?

You make a well known point about why one should not discuss politics or religion (I also usually throw in sex to make three no-nos) in an open setting.
I, for one, absolutely love a religious or political discussion. The choice word here being, discussion. That is the root of the problem though, and exactly why I don’t participate in these type of posts much on Lumbrjocks. It is almost impossible to have these type discussions without them being lowered to arguments, with name calling, insults, and purely childish behavior.
When the coffe lounge/non-shop talk forum was opened back up and I seen a few political topics pop up, I was anxious to see if maybe we could have a few mature political discussions here. I am sure most of you already know that my anxiety quickly turned to disappointment at what I saw unfolding.
In the past couple of weeks, I have made the mistake of posting a couple of time in these type discussions. I think I’m going to stop making that mistake, get back to the wood shop, and enjoy myself.
Happy New Years everyone!

That is a great cartoon. I wonder if there is a cutting board with that design.

The problem with the optical illusion drawing is its suggestion that all political views are somehow equally valid. Which means the difference between Switzerland and Zimbabwe’s government and society is one merely of sheer dumb luck.

There’s a name for this sort of “every view is equally valid” worldview that produces in people what looks like apathy on steroids. Nihilism.

The cartoon is an excellent commentary on Perception. As in ‘nobody’s perception is wrong, and nobody’s perception is right.’

I could stand on both sides of that cartoon and argue with myself all day long. I’m never wrong!
